Enjoy your long week end

Hey everyone, just a quick post to wish you all a safe and happy Memorial Day. This week-end is a time to remember all of those American Hero's who have given their lives for our freedom. It is also a day in my opinion to let those who are serving in our military, either in the US or in a distant land, know how much we appreciate their service and sacrifice. I would personally like to thank the families of all service members for their love, support and hardship in living the military life. We love and thank each and every one of you for your role in making our freedom a reality. God Bless You and May The Sun Shine Upon You.

I have dug out one of the Maya Road mini books that has been on my to do shelf for a bit now and have started putting it together. We brought in some of the K&Co paper pads and I have fallen in love with each of them and just need to play with them. The Black and Ivory Fusion one was really screaming at me so that is the one I am playing with now. The papers are just beautiful, double sided and full of beautiful patterns. The Maya Road Curved Edge Scallop Layer book seems to be just the right style to go with all of the papers. I have painted the edges of the book, added papers to each page and now the fun part begins which is to find all the right embellishments to give the book its character. I can't wait to see how it turns out and what I come up with. I guess I never really have a plan, I just go on the fly and in my humble opinion most, and I do say most of what I end up with pleases me.

Do you plan your books before starting, do you create on the fly or do a little of both? What are you working on now, are you getting started on gifts for Fathers day, Graduation, Weddings? What are your favorite items to work with. Do you find you use the same things over and over, or do you love to experiment with new things?
I am sure what ever your working on will have that one of a kind special touch that only you can add.
I hope your Wednesday is a but sunnier than it is here in Washington, that you find something to day that will make you smile, and if your really blessed something along the way will make you laugh till you cry.

Blessings to you all

Busy Week

Hi All,
I am amazed that another week has zipped by and I have not been able to spend one minute doing anything crafty at all !! We had my Aunt here this last week staying with my mom and my sisters and I all took turns staying there to help out. We took her to all the places she wanted to go, and then Dan and I drove her home on Friday which is about a 10 hour round trip. I think she enjoyed her stay and even though it was hard for all of us we found joy in the visit too.
We also found out this week that my son and his wife are having a Girl !! We are so excited, but I must admit I really thought it was going to be a boy. I am delighted either way and I know they are too.
We added some great tools to the website this week, the Martha Stewart bone folder, fiskars finger tip craft knife, mini misters (a must have item) making memories sanding block and so much more. I also put together some Petaloo Color Me Crazy flower packs that have aprox. 60 flowers in each bag. They would normally retail for about 8 bucks but we have them for less. They are fun flowers to play with as you can do just about anything with them. I love to stamp on them and then use the Maya Mists or Glimmer Mist over the stamped image. You can layer them, cut them apart and use in pieces and if you want to make them more dimensional you can paint them with mod podge and shape them as they dry. They are a limited supply so be sure to order yours before they are all gone.

Barrie and I are brainstorming as what to do for our next challenge so stay tuned to find out what we will throw down for a challenge and what we will give up as a prize.

I hope you all have a great Sunday and that you find time to get your crafting supplies out!!
Blessings

Happy Sunday ! Hang on for a long post !

I know for many of us this time of year is so busy. We are women trying to keep up with the demands of others, working full or part time jobs, having one or several kids involved in sports or extra school activities, keeping our homes running and trying to make time for ourselves to do what we love most. The last of these items seems to be the one that gets put on the rear burner. I have been in that  boat for a few weeks, so what ends up suffering for me is sleep. I tend to stay up later, wake up earlier, and spend my days wondering why I am so tired. I am driven to get it all done and do it all well. I have managed to finish a couple of projects this week and would love to share it with you. First is a frame that I made for my Aunt who is here visiting for a week. She is failing in health and recently lost her husband so I wanted to do something special for her. I know she will love it and it will brighten her day.

The frame is a MDF frame that I picked up at the craft store. I painted the edges with Maya Mist Amethyst, and then covered it with one of the papers from the Kaiser Craft Lilac Avenue Paper Pack. I had some chipboard alphabets and Lace that I sprayed with Maya Mist Pink Grapefruit. I then painted some Prima flowers with both the Amethyst and the Grapefruit . The leaves were sprayed with Maya Mist Iridescent pearl, and then all of it was hot glued to the frame. I added some purple bling to both the paper and the lace to finish it off. Once everything was attached to the frame I then sprayed the entire thing with the Iridescent spray to give it a wonderful shimmer. I Love how it turned out and will be delighted to give it to her.

The next project is the Punky Sprout Album. I was not sure about how to go about this, but once I got started it all seem to flow.

This is the cover, and I started with the Jades Garden Paper Pack. The bird cage and bird are the Sizzix Tim Holtz Dies and they are sprayed with TA Sand, and Maya Mist Teal . I added bling to the bottom of the bird cage and then some flowers and a chain onto the bird cage. I used the Kaiser Craft Friends Rub ons throughout the album.

I created a pocket and tag for the bottom of the page, and left the  top of the pocket open to add another tag. Both tags are Sizzix dies. The Circle is embossed with a cuttlebug embosser and then rubbed with rusty hinge distress ink The flowers a made from the 3-D Sizzix die and then sprayed with Maya Mist. I surrounded the circle with some chain pearls and added some Prima leaves.

The flower on this page is the Tattered Floral Die From Sizzix and it is placed on a mini doily that I found at the second hand store. There Is a simple mat for a picture and a rub on to finish the page
The page on the right is canvas and I was unsure of how to work with it, I sprayed the page with GM and then  decided to try stamping on it. Then painted the flowers and stems with some GM and dotted the centers with some glitter mixed with some glue. And then finished it off with some oval Tags sprayed with Maya Mist and a rub on, which worked quite well on the canvas.

The back side of the canvas page was sprayed with Maya Mist and the Butterfly lace was sprayed with Gm and then I added a flower made with wired lace, and small prima flowers.
Its hard to see but the page with the black frames is an acrylic page. I stamped the frames onto it using Stazon in, and then added a rub on and some charms. The frames show through to the back side of the page, so that worked for doing both sides of the acrylic.

I created a pocket using a legal size envelope and then covered it with the packaging from one of the prima stamps, I cut out flowers from a page of the Jades garden paper and added it to the side. The tag is cut using the Sizzix Super Crescent Tag die, and then stamped with the Prima Notary Stamp, and then a rub on was added to the bottom of the page.

The frame is a Sizzix die and is cut out of chipboard , sprayed with GM and then surrounded with string pearls. The page on the right is another canvas page it is sprayed with GM, stamped with small flowers  and then I created a paper mat, added the hinge from the Tim Holtz Hardware findings and  the Lock and Key from Sizzix, they are all cut out of chipboard and sprayed with GM. More rub ons are added to both pages

The back side of the canvas page was sprayed with Sand GM and then I took some Glitter and mixed it with scotch glue and water and then painted over the entire page with it to give it some shine. I cut out the bracket album from Sizzix, embossed it using a cuttlebug die (this is chipboard and the embossing worked great on it)
Then I rubbed it with rusty hinge distress ink. The flowers are sprayed with GM and of course there are more rub ons. Torn papers, rub ons, a large flower folded, two small flowers and a pearl stem finish off these pages.

The back is just coved with paper and a rub on added. The album is finished with ribbons added to the spiral spine. I had so much fun on this album as it stretched my imagination, allowed me to use different techniques that I had not done, and allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and enlarge its perimeters.

Well I know this has been a long post, Thanks for sticking with me. I will be away for a few days to spend some time at my moms to help her take care of my Aunt while she is there. I hope you all have a week that allows you to take some time just for you.
Blessings Carol

Glitter, Glittered and Glittery !!

So, picture this... 13 large jars of glitter, 500 small 2ML glass bottles and 1 mini funnel...Yup you got it..a wonderful shimmery glittery mess. But I will tell you it is so worth it. These are the most beautiful colors of glitter I have ever worn... Yes I was covered, and my hubbie said I was shimmering in the light.. the most romantic words I have heard from him in so long... I think I will play with glitter more often LOL.
Anyway, we now have these available in the store and you get all 12 glitters and one Textures Earth Elements..Enhanced Elements Earth Textures are a totally original medium developed by Barbara Trombley, and they are so fun to play with. We are sure to be bringing in more of these elements now that we have had a chance to use them. I love adding glitter to the edges of my dimensional flowers, stamped images, and don't forget the homemade glitter buttons that I did the video on.. glitter even adds a great touch to plain or colored chipboard items. Be sure to get the micro tip adhesive bottle for easy application of glue lines.
Also look for some great tools, elements, and more to be added to the store early next week.
Also, we would like to stock paper trimmer refill blades and would like to know what kind of trimmers you use... Some of the blades are getting quite hard to find in the stores so we want to make it easy for you to get them when you need them.
Hope your hump day is going well and that you have had a ton of things to smile about so far this week.

Box #7 And 50 followers !!

We have another wonderful box done by Sarah Elliot and it is to die for! I am so amazed with the creativity of each box and how different each one makes the template look. Sara you did a great job and I love love love all of the metal on it. Sarah's supplies and techniques are....

"I started by using the Tim Holtz Masks and sponging on 2 browns, a yellow, some orange and a green ink over them, then spritzing the whole thing with Old Lace Glimmer Mist.
I also used copper in to smudge around all the edges and folds after assembling the box.
The Lace Trim is sprayed with 2 shades of Glimmer Mist.
The top is covered in brass and vintage goodies: Cog, Metal Flowers, Old Beads, Spring, Screw, Brass Jewelry Bits, Clocks Parts, Feathers and a Hair Pin with a Lock & Key dangling over the side."

Mother's day gifts

Tomorrow I am attending a Mother's Day Lunch with my Mom, Mother-in-law, Daughter-In-Law, Sister and niece so I didn't want to go empty handed. I found this basket template from Gina K.Designs and thought I would try to make a few up to take with me. Let me tell you they were so easy and cute!! I made one for each of my gals and an extra one for the wonderful woman who orginizes this event every year. If your looking for a quick gift, this is it. It holds a small 4 pack of the starter plants, and I bought several kinds and mixed them up and still have enough left for a basket for my self!
Here is the link to find the instructions and the template!!

Box Submissions

I was just wondering if there are any more of you that are working on the box challenge before we close it and choose our drawing winner. I will leave the challenge open unit Sunday night just in case. I love the way all of the boxes have turned out and they are all so different. I even love the fact that Barrie was able to take some time out of her very busy schedule to make her own box. If you have not yet seen the challenge, it is posted under April showers and there is a printable template for you to use for this box. It is super simple and once you make one you will want to make more and more of these.
Here is a sample of one of the boxes, and this one happens to be Barries. We would also love to see what some of you are making for your Mother's day gifts so send us a link to your project.
Hope your all having a great week and that Your days are filled with sunshine and happiness.
Blessings

Good Fortune

By Leslie Cranwill (our special guest designer)

How fortunate am I to get to play with all the goodies available at Scrapadabadoo?

I had so much fun designing with the new Airy Fairy line from Kaisercraft. On this layout of my daughter I used Airy Fairy - Dreams as the background paper. I used the fortunes from inside several fortune cookies (yes I ate them all!) to line the top and bottom of the paper. I cut out the circle pattern from Prima's Strawberry Kisses - cupcake, distressed the edges a bit and rolled some sections to have the large polka dots play off the small dotted Dream paper.

The new Tim Holtz Sixxix Bigz die cuts " Hardware Findings" and " Hanging Sign" were calling my name and seemed perfect for this layout. I chose the fabulous keyhole die cut and a key charm to unlock my daughter's good fortune and the hanging sign (minus the sign) to dangle a little fortune cookie charm from. I inked the chipboard and added some of the shimmery Ultra-Fine Glitter in purple and blue. The Scrapadabadoo gals sent me some beautiful lace and it had to make it on to this layout. Check out how luscious it is!!!

I had some silk fabric from an old pair of p.j.s that I've been holding on to and the cloud and dragon design worked really well on this Asian inspired page.

Paper umbrellas, Kaisercraft brads and a tassel from a dollar store jewelry box finished things up.

I have a fabulous Punky Sprouts album in the works and will be using more of the beautiful Airy Fairy line in it so stay tuned!!!!

Tuesday Sketch

I have another sketch for you today and I have to say that I have had a lot of fun making these up. I sometimes get stuck doing the same thing over and over and so this kind of thing helps me move out of the box. These sketches are basic and are meant for a starting point. Use your imagination, add more, take some away and even change the shape of the elements, but try to keep the basic sketch. As a challenge, the first three people, who have yet to send us pictures of their work, to use this sketch and post pictures will receive a chipboard mini book of their choice from the store and we will even pay the shipping!! And who knows, everyone else might get a surprise too !!

So get busy girls and let me see your stuff.

I have a date with my granddaughter today as she has her mom and me at school, and because her mom is one of the teachers, she needs a step in and she asked for me. So since tomorrow is her birthday, we will be picking her up from school, taking her back for the school event and then taking her out for ice cream and presents before we take her home. I so look forward to these times together with the grand kids.

I hope you have something grand planned for the week, and as Mother's day approaches we would also love to see pictures of the cards and gifts your giving to those special women in your life....

Happy Tuesday and Blessings to each of you.

Barries Box

Ok...I finally got to it. Now I really expect more of you to do one of these! If I can do it ...anyone can!!!
This was a fun project and the perfect place for me to use the new 3D Flowers from Sizzix. I love that die. The flowers are so cute and you can make them as tightly closed or as open as you want. You can see the flowers on the box are varying degres of open.

I got to use another favorite of mine...LACE! Any chance I get to use lace makes me tingle!
Speaking of LACE....I found a new supplier in Pakistan and the lace I got from there is exqusite!...Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! We will have it up in the store soon. You're in for a treat!

Carol will leave this challenge up for a little longer....so if you want to participate get your pics to us. This is soooo cute...how can you resist??? Plus...I'll give you a hint....there will be prizes...

Hope to see you real soon,
Toodles,
Barrie
