My life's journey by Wendy Kats

When going trough my design box I found this fun chipboard album and in a second I decided I was gong to make an album for myself for a change.

Until now I always made albums for my family, friends or my son but never one for just me. Last January I turned 40 and I realized I am basically halfway trough my life. With a smile on my face the title popped in my head and I'm proud to show you My life's Journey Part One.

It didn't take long for me to realize the rings that come with the album would be to small so I exchange them for some nice 2" rings to give it more breathing room.  The collection pack I used is from Echo Park and is called Reflections. This paper is just perfect for this project.

I have to say that there is no tutorial for the pages...why you might ask...well for me an album like this is a perfect way to just go with the flow and make it something really unique and personal. I love to make layered pockets and tags sticking out everywhere but not all people do. Some people like large mattes and flaps and that's why these chipboard albums are so much fun.

I even added a few pages simply by getting a piece of chipboard and cutting it to the size i want it to be.
When making these added pages I went nuts and even added covers so I could use the pages that had a tab for the fun idea of each ten years of my life per tab.

I covered each of the chipboard pages with a base color I got out of the cardstockpack that way the patterned paper would pop more. For the tags and pockets I used kraft cardstock cause I found it fitting perfectly with the rest of the paper line.

This collection has one of my favorite things I think gives some extra dimension to a page.....layered chipboard!!!! Next to brads and the normal chipboard pieces this is so much fun to work with.

This album is an album very close to my heart and when I am done adding the pictures of  the first 40 years of my life it will be priceless. I think every now and then you have  to be selfish and create something for yourself. I did with this album and i hope god will give me enough years to make a part two.

For now i say... stay safe scrap on and if you like...drop by my blog for more photo's of this project.

Hugs Wendy

Time Traveler Pt.2 - Ladder Wall Hanging by Kim

I wanted to make a photo album keeping in the era of the Time Traveler’s paper collection. At least to me the paper speaks as if from a Victorian time period! So I decided to make a photo album that can hang on a wall rather than sit on a table or shelf. They always made me think of a Jacob’s Ladder, not sure why, but they do! This little photo album can be hung on a wall, either side facing out or folded and kept in the little Memory Box.

1. For each photo I die cut 2 each of  the same paper using Spellbinders Labels 3, second to the largest die. Then I die cut one of the pieces of paper with a circle die, I used a nesting circle die. Make sure that there is approximately .25” of paper on all outer edges!

2. I used clear acrylic bubbles called Shaker Bubbles for the “glass”. They fit perfectly inside the die cut circle. You can also upcycle acrylic packaging, like what all the Spellbinders dies come in If you can’t find them or don’t want to use the bubble.
If you use packaging, then die cut the flat acrylic with the same Labels 3 die.

3. I used Tim Holtz Found Relatives pack for my “family”. They just seemed to go with this project and I was able to find a faux couple and their children! But any photos or pictures can be used. You can also add some tiny trinkets and/or charms inside the bubble with or without a photo. Die cut the photos with the Spellbinders Labels 3 die. It’s all right if the photos don’t fit the die exactly, just as long the photo fills the entire die cut circle.

4. Adhere the die cut paper “frame” piece to the bubble. Cut the bubble outer edges to fit the outer edges of the “frame”. Adhere that to your photo.

5. If  you like the distressed and ink look, now is the time to do that. Both the framed photo piece and the back die cut piece.
Of course I used TH’s vintage photo!

6. Put a brad in all four corners of the framed photo piece, this will help keep it together.

7. In keeping with the time period of this set, I decided to hang all the photos vertically with a ribbon. If you’d rather display the photos horizontally, put the ribbon in the opposite direction. I used a double sided satin ribbon (although it’s hard to tell in the photos), but I’d recommend using a grosgrain ribbon. You need an inch between each photo piece to be able to fold the album and fit it in the box. Cut the ribbon with about 3” to spare on each end - top and bottom. That way you can add a bow at the top and cut a nice notched tail at the bottom.
Adhere the ribbon to the inside of each die cut back piece with an inch of space between each back piece section.

8. From the Time Traveler’s collection brads, I put a large brad at the top and a small brad at the bottom on the back pieces. Through both the paper and the ribbon.

9. You can embellish with flat-ish ephemera such as flowers, enamel dots, gems or fussy cut pieces either before or after you adhere both sides together. For me I was easier to embellish before.
10. Using a strong double side adhesive like Scor-Tape, adhere both sides together. The back die cut piece with ribbon and the front die cut photo piece with photo and bubble.

11. Sew a bow or flower on one side of the ribbon at the top, and I added a beaded gem drop on the other side. Your Jacob’s Ladder mini photo album is ready to hang or place in the box as a keepsake! I made the bow using the Zutter Bow-It-All, love that tool!

Hope you enjoy this,
Kim

Time Traveler - Pt 1 Memory Box

Time Traveler Memory Box. Part I

I made this project to accompany and compliment Jen’s Time Traveler Trunk. I think it will fit inside the trunk and if you don’t want to make Part II, you can always fill the little box with small trinkets that may get lost in the trunk! I had so much fun with this project it was difficult for me to scale back on the embellishments. I just love the paper collection and the possibility to “Steampunk” it up!

1. I used the Sizzix Box, Square die to make the box. It’s such a versatile die and I find that I use it more than I thought I would. The dimensions of the finished box are 3.25 x 3.25 x 3.25. I first die cut the box with medium weight chipboard and then again with paper - to cover the outside and again for the inside.

2. I use washi tape and all the edges. For this project I used a Tim Holtz washi tape, any of his will work wonderfully with this paper! Be sure and burnish well. This will help give the box stability.

3. Punch a hole for a magnet in the front piece of the box as well as in the separate lid piece of chipboard. I love to use magnets or ornate latches for the closure. Scrapadabadoo carries a wide variety! As well as hinges and handles to match!
4. Cut down the die cut paper to cover the sides by .25”, that way there will be an 1/8” border of washi tape showing. Only do this on the outside pieces of paper. The inside pieces should meet at the seams.
5. Embellish the paper side pieces before you attach, or do the reverse. There is no right or wrong way. I find it easier to lay out all my embellishments on the pieces to make sure they all compliment each other before I adhere them to the box. Don’t forget the top! I added two hinges and a handle to the box top, but they can be left off, it’s really what appeals to the maker.

6. Place the magnets in the holes and glue in place for added security. Adhere the inside paper to all sides and inside box top. Add embellishments if you’d like, as well as feet. I added little wooden feet that I found at Michael’s. FYI: I found that Tim Holtz Distress Paint in aged mahogany is a great match!

Embellishments used: Prima flowers, TH gears, game spinners, wings from his adornments pack, Prima Time Traveler’s brads, wooden pieces, stickers, fussy cut images from the collection, various brads from my stash.

I decided to put a Mini in this box...stay tuned for Part 2....
Thanks so much,
Kim

My Steampunk Fascinator for the Steampunk Soiree made totally from Kraft Tex and Beacon Fabric Tac.

I first started cutting out the pattern from the Kraft color Kraft Tex:

I used an embossing folder and then colored it with Prima Color Bloom spray:

Then I took paper clay and formed my mermaid:

Then it is just embellishing the rest of the hat, I used the mega flakes on the cheery lynn clock die and added pearls, lace, bling and ribbon.

I also, embossed this with zebra embossing folder and wiped it with gilders paste.  Kraft Tex is a great media for any project or scrapbook pages.  Be sure to join the rest of the design time for some great fun this weekend!
