Little Blessings By Wendy Kats

A smile on the face of your child, dinner with the whole family or the hug from the one you love....it are these little moments in life you feel blessed. We all have these moments but for some reason never document them by writing a little note. This was the inspiration to this cute little album...

This little 6x6 album will have room for a few special pictures but is made to hold little notes and tags with your thoughts and feelings. It will make a great gift for Christmas. Add the persons name on the front..collect those special moments during the year and give it to them with Christmas to show them how blessed you feel for having them in your life.

Each page has a flap on the front with a small skinny pocket. You can add an extra pocket to the main page or use it for a special picture. I used and older paper for the Album but I think I need to make another one with the Fabscraps Christmas Joy I fell in love with that paper the moment i saw it .

The back of the page has a flap as well with a pocket and as you can see I have an addiction with pockets and envelopes so I added them wherever I could :)
Hmmmm you know the Sleigh Bells paper from My minds Eye would be stinking cute as well... oh boy I think I got a series on my hands here!

You can put your heart and soul into this album and make it so very special. I will be the first to admit that I sometimes don't tell the people I love just how much they mean to me and how blessed I am to have them in my life. So to all you lovely people... thank you for being a part of my life, for giving me the inspiration for my projects, for making me smile when I feel down and for listening when I need it the most.

Stay safe...stay inspired and feel blessed,,,I know I do...

Hugs

Wendy

Bi-Challenge Chipboard Version

We all love the new Challenge Carol has put up from Liz Walker from Splitcoaststampers.
It is a perfect little box to use for a gift, but I was a bit worried it would get damaged when just made out of paper so I made a chipboard version. A few other people mentioned they would like it to be a bit more sturdy so I made another one and will walk you trough all the steps. Enjoy and please share your projects with us :)

 Step 1. the chipboard pieces:
2 covers 6" x 6"
1 spine 3"x 6"
4 box pieces 2 7/8" x 4"

Step 2. pick out your paper, ribbon and some embellishments

Step 3. Take two pieces of ribbon ( I cut mine a bit longer to be safe) and attach them half way up the chipboard and about 2"in from the edge. Make sure you got them mirrored as shown.

Step 4. Attach the paper you picked out for the covers, and make sure they are not upside down and of course mirrored as shown  ( I almost had balloons floating the wrong way haha )

Step 5. Take a piece of either pattern paper or as in this case black card stock and cut it down
to 4 3/4" x 6". Attach your spine in the center as shown.

Step 6. attach your covers on each side of the spine leaving about an 1/8" between your spine and your cover as you will have be able to make it bend.

Step 7. take a second piece of either pattern paper or card stock and place it over the inside of the spine and covers as shown.

Step 8. Cover the inside of the covers with the pattern paper of your choice and the outside of your box is now done.

Step 9. Take your 4 box pieces and line them up. You can but them up and attach them together using construction strips. Don't forget to ad some construction strips to the bottom as shown.

Step 10. Close the ring and you should have a bottomless box with strips on the inside as shown.

Step 11. Attach the ring on the right side of the cover piece you made earlier placing it in the center which is roughly 1" in from each edge.

Step 12. Cover the inside with the pattern paper of your choice.
The center is about 3 7/8" x 3 7/8" and the sides are about 2 3/4" x 3 7/8" but always measure to be safe.

Step 13. Cover the outside of the ring with pattern paper.
I used 4 pieces of 2 7/8" x 4"

Step 14. Go nuts on the embellishments and make this the best gift box ever!!!

I hope this was clear enough for all you lovely people if not just ask and i will do my best to help you all out :)
If you will excuse me know i got a few more to make as I have decided to give some away with Christmas filled with cookies;)

Have fun... and scrap on.

Hugs,

Wendy

SILENT NIGHT by Patti Sylvia

Halloween’s over, time to put the Jack O’ Lanterns away…there’s a cold breeze in the air and I can’t think of anything better than pouring a hot cup of coffee and pulling up to my craft desk to make some Christmas cards.  So in the spirit of the season, I present to you SILENT NIGHT.
I used this beautiful stamp by Stampendous that can be found here at Scrapadabadoo  http://www.scrapadabadoo.com/item_7643/Stampendous-Silent-Night-Stamp.htm

001
I started with cutting the card base to 4.25 x 11”, then scoring on the 11” side at 5.5” to create a side folded horizontal card.  I used Paper Accents, smooth white, 100lb cardstock in the 8.5 x 11 pack http://www.scrapadabadoo.com/item_4183/Smoothe-White-100-lb-8.5-x-11.htm  I really like this paper for card making.  The size is perfect as you can get 2 card bases out of one sheet of paper and the weight is perfect because it’s very sturdy to support whatever you decide to put on the front of the card.

I then stamped my focal image using the Silent Night stamp http://www.scrapadabadoo.com/item_7643/Stampendous-Silent-Night-Stamp.htm in Ranger Archival ink in black
http://www.scrapadabadoo.com/item_2447/Ranger-Archival-Ink-Pad-Black.htm.  I like this ink because it creates a beautiful, crisp image and it’s waterproof which is important when you plan to use Distress Inks over it.  The Distress inks are a water based product and if the image was stamped with a non-waterproof ink then the beautiful image would smear and we don’t want that now do we.

Next, it was time to add some color over the image.  For that I chose Stormy Sky as the base color being sure to be light handed over the verse.  Next I blended some Faded Jeans Distress Ink being  extremely light handed around the verse.  The next color I added very lightly is Dusty Concord just around the edges being sure to blend well, then finally a very light tapping of Black Soot.   I have linked all of the colors below.

004
Next it’s time to add the snowy effect which not only adds to the theme, but also helps to brighten up the colors.  First step is to be sure the Distress inks are dry then I randomly sprinkled some white embossing powder over the card being sure not to get any over the verse. Now here’s what makes this embossing a little different…I did not use any watermarking ink so you cannot heat set this from above, you have to heat set it from underneath so you don’t blow the embossing powder off your paper.  You can add as much or as little as you want.

I then wanted to double mat my stamped image so I cut the image down to 4.75 x 3.75”.  I mounted it to a piece of black cardstock cut to 4 7/8’s x 3 7/8’s.  I then added foam tape http://www.scrapadabadoo.com/item_7167/Scotch-Foam-Tape-.50x150.htm to the back and mounted it to a piece of silver glittered paper cut to 5 3/8’s x 4 1/8 to give the final piece a festive yet elegant feel http://www.scrapadabadoo.com/item_7499/DCWV-6x6-Glitzy-Glitter-Pad.htm

This card came together very quickly which makes it great for mass production.  You could just get all of your pieces cut, inked and embossed then assembled and in no time you've got all of your cards done ready for mailing.

Thank you very much for looking ~Patti~

Men at Work by Wendy Kats

This project has been calling my name for a while now but I had to finish my Halloween projects first ;)
There are a few people in my life who are very important and the hubby and my son are two of those people. I wanted to make something just for them that shows not only how much them mean to me but also how much they mean to each other.
So I started looking for something that would fit that idea. I found the Beyond the page toolbox while I was ordering some basic supplies at Scrapadabadoo and it was just perfect!
Hmmm I have to be honest and say that I am proud how it turned out and the boys just love it...I hope you all will like it as well...

I just love the whole father and son idea behind this. They both have their own side but they are still one piece, working and playing as one and the Good ol' sport paper from Graphic 45 is the finishing touch.

The boys both have their own album but with a little twist I will show later on. Don't ask me how but somewhere along the line my brain had the weird idea to use some shoelaces for the binding of the album instead of the rings....it's a bit twisted but I actually think it's kind of cute haha.

The base for both albums are the same as I used the long 5 ring chipboard album. The little twist is the pockets on the inside. Dad has the full page pockets and the son has 2 small pockets per page. Hmmmm I guess you can call them Senior and Junior  Hehe. The chipboard pieces from the collection give that little bit of extra.

In the Senior album I used the  Tim Holtz on the edge gear die to create extra pockets. Because this is an album for the guys I decided to go for twine on the tags and skip the ribbon ;)

I am seriously thinking about making this project again for two other very important men in my life. My dad and granddad deserve one as well. I better start looking for a good paper...they both loved fishing....

This project has a small tutorial I will post the link for it at the end and of course you can always buzz me on Facebook or pop me a mail trough my blog if you have any questions.

Well I better get back to work as Thanksgiving and Christmas are closing in on us..ohh and before I forget here is the link to the tutorial.

For now I say stay safe...scrap on and till next time.

hugs,

Wendy

Christmas Joy Folio by Debi Schnabel

I was sent the small Tim Holtz folio and some of the beautiful FabScraps Christmas Joy papers to play with. I decided to make a Christmas Folio using the Tim Holtz Glassine envelopes and some Kraft policy envelopes from my stash and some other stashed items that I’m sure we all have hidden somewhere. LOL! What I came up with is super easy to put together and quick too!
Here is the list of supplies I used: (You can find all these items and more at Scrapadabadoo Crafts)
Fabscraps Christmas Joy Paper Pk
TH Folio Small
Tim Holtz Kraft Glassine Pocket Tag Envelope 6pc
Policy Envelopes
6x9 Manila envelope
paper bag
This is the completed project… I have videos showing what I did on my YouTube channel here.
001003002
This is the front of the folio and inside the front cover. I used the glassine envelopes and policy envelopes throughout this project. Here you can see the belly band I made to hold photo mats and the glassine envelope. On the right side I used a policy envelope, sealed and cut off just a small slice of one long side to open it up, for a pocket.
004005006
On the inside front I made an insert using a paper bag and a 6x9 Manila envelope. There is a great tutorial for this on youtube, I included the link in the description of my video.
007008
For each of the pockets I used both, the policy envelopes and Glassine envelopes. For the kraft policy envelopes I opened the bottom, or side in the case of the first pocket, and folded them. This created another pocket to add tags or photo mats. For the Glassine bags I ran them through my Big Shot with embossing folders to give them some character.
009010
I attached them to the included folio hinge and covered both sides of the exposed areas with the FabScraps Christmas Joy papers.

There really are so many more options for the very versatile folio. I can see this being done for Birthdays, Graduation and much, much more!

I used one of the cut-apart  papers to make tags and as photo mat place holders. To see more of this project take a look at the videos below.

Season of Change

Ecclesiastes 3:3
To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven There are seasons in our lives that bless us, make us think, some are sorrowful, some are reflective, some which stretch us, some that see us moving in a different direction. As one door closes another door opens.  Sometimes the journey to the next door requires time and patience.  That is where my journalling helps me and I needed something to put these things together. Changes, for me mean journalling thoughts to help me. So in this vein the Spiritus Album was born.  clip_image001 (Please don’t be put off with the Christian theme I have included some positive thinking thoughts you can use for this album :)  ) the Paperline I used was the Prima Princess A4 paper pad.  This is lovely paper, suited the theme very well. I covered the tags and extension binding with the papers first then went back to add bits and pieces. As this is a journalling type of album I did not put a lot of embellishments on it as I tend to doodle as I journal making that my embellishment.   There are lovely embellishments in the Prima Princess line in the Scrapadabadoo store.  Nooooooo just saw the ATC pad, rats I would have used that for the album, ok need to get them and do the sequel to this.  I also find things along the way and I add them as I see fit so like to leave areas for that to make it more personal.  I do that a lot and it gets pretty decorated by the time I am finished.  I used three pages as inserts, for the themes I used.  I have at least another three themes but want them in a separate album.  The three I used are Blessings, Hope and Prayer.  The others are Weary, Troubles/Fearful and Worry.  I have included them in the handout which I will add to the bottom of this blog. I decided to go with 2” rings, but you could use ribbon or twine to keep the album together.  I sometimes want to take the page out so the rings suited me best. I used the black tag album from Scrapadabadoo.    I wanted to extend the tags so I can bind it and Ashliegh (scrapsbuttonsnbows)  had a great idea idea to extend it.  Instrtuctions can be found here   The front cover I dived into my stash, could I find my thickers, of course not, so found an ooooold spellbinders alphabet set that fitted, have some others but they were too big.  I used copper mirror card for the letters and came across a key (oooh I do love keys), the metal flower was a gift and popped a small rose in the middle.  And guess what, after applying the letters I found my thickers doh the usual in other words.  Those blessed gremlins! clip_image001[1] Oooh did I tell you, I used gilding paste on the edges of the tags to give it a lovely finish like a bible edge lol. Inside of front cover: We all have a favourite verse/positive thought and for this album I decided to put my favourite verse with a wee extension, love this.  This has great meaning to me, so you can put something that means a great deal to you on this side.  Psalm 23 explained - I popped it onto chipboard so it would stand out.  Thanks Gwen (crafty lady) for this fab idea. clip_image002 Blessings page The next page can be what you decide, when I take the pages out I don’t always put them back in the order I had originally lol (too much like thinking – that hurts!!!)  So this one is Blessings. clip_image003 I made a heading and popped in onto chipboard.  Well I do have a lot of bits of chipboard and needed to use them up, so its all Gwen’s fault you know lol.  She is such a lovely lady with great ideas. clip_image004  see what I mean lol. I made a pocket out of patterned paper so I can place my verses/positive thoughts into to give me a starting point for reflection.

I cut a piece of patterned paper 4 1/2” x 3 1/4”, I scored at 1/4” on one long side and the two short sides and attached it to the tag.     On the front of the pocket I put lines of a song on each page, for me worship and praise lifts me up and these came to me instantly.  Put your version on here, its amazing what singing a song can do for you no matter what kind.  Below that I added some verses as a starting point. I cut out the verses and made them into little tags.  I loooooooooooove the WRMK Power Punch Euro Hook.  It lets me add ribbon if I want, but more importantly I love how it can be put onto a ring very easily when I want to change the verses around.  I put a little ribbon to keep the verses together.   That way I can change them round to suit my mood/situation. On the back I made a folding pocket, I think it is called the Rose Pocket, saw this on utube but can I find the video, can I chookie birdie. clip_image005 Rose Pocket instructions can be found here I attached it to the tag using ribbon to hold it together.  I made journalling tags and used the WRMK Power Punch Euro Hook.  I didn’t put ribbon on these, as I found the lovely punch out area was fab for pulling the tags out.     The next page was Hope. Same as before, made a pocket and tags to insert inside.  Song line and verses placed onto pocket. clip_image006 back of the tag I did a cascade of #3 coin envelopes.  I do love cascades they give you great area for journalling, pictures and so on.  I used the patterned paper as hinges to make it look lovely. clip_image007 Again I used some ribbon to keep it closed.  Added some lace at the bottom, the flowers on it reminded me of the verse ‘Faith as small as a mustard seed’ for prayer, beautiful things come from it. I extended the flap of the coin envelope (3 3/4” by width of envelopes)  to give more journalling space.  I used the WRMK Power Punch Euro Hook for my tags, gives great purchase to get it out of the envelope without need a tag pull. clip_image008 The next Page is Prayer. I changed the front of this page when I found some lovely pictures on google so decided to go with that (I put in   The first picture the word prayer has words within it with what prayer means and I loved it so decided it was going to be my banner for this and the gorgeous wee bairn spoke of having childlike faith so went with that one.  Choose pictures that have meaning for you to personalise your album. clip_image009 the back of this one clip_image010 I took some large pockets from the Paper Accents Assorted pockets but they only had two of each size and I needed three so hauled out my Lifestyle Crafts Treat bag die and cranked one out for the middle.  I also used the Lifestyle Crafts Tab It die kit to use to attach the pockets to the tag.  These dies along with the Label It dies are my go to dies for such a lot, they are so versatile.  I also used magnets to keep the pockets closed. I also decided when added the patterned paper I would use it as a pocket on the front to give me more space.  Also when I attached the middle pocket I glued it down so that I would have a pocket behind it as well. clip_image011 I have always loved this picture with the boy and the dog, so had to use it lol. Again I used tags and used the WRMK Power Punch Euro Hook.  Lol I think you are getting the message that I really love this tool. Inside Back cover I added a bible study leading up to Christmas.  Choose your own study/mediation/thoughts to help you.  Again I used chipboard to pop it up on the tag.  Of course some gilding paste had to go onto it lol. clip_image012 For me the time with  Design Team has blessed me wonderfully.  I learned a great deal from a great bunch of gals.  I had to dust off thinking outside the box – that hurts lol but was such fun. So as I leave the Design Team I wish them all the best, they are fab ladies that I am pleased to call friends. I will never stop crafting er I bleed paper and glue lol.  I pop up everywhere. So keep peeking into my blog www.heavenlymam.blogspot.com for more crafty things. vereses and some pictures in pdf document click here
