Pocket Tags by Kim Russel

For my Design Team project I decided to pay homage to all the DT members. Since we are all artists I wanted to make a tiny mini using Artist Trading Cards. They are pretty small and a perfect fit in the box made from the Sizzix Box with Scallop Flap & Flowers die. The box fits perfectly on Graphic 45 large tag, so I just had to combine everything. I love tags and pockets and this was a wonderful way to combine them.

I started with the tag, scoring each tag at 3” from the bottom.  That will make your pocket when folded up.

Cut paper and adhere to pocket side, if using a patterned paper with a right side up, be mindful when adhering paper to the part of the tag that will be folded up. Trim around the eyelet - I use a Martha Stewart craft knife. It helps to punch through the eyelet first, and also rub where the eyelet is with your thumb so you know where to trim.  To make the pocket place a strong, double sided tape - like 1/4” scor-tape - on either side of the bottom of the tag from the score line to the end and fold up. Press firmly. Cut and adhere paper to the other side of the tag. Trim paper around the eyelet. I like a distressed and inked edge, but it’s purely optional. This is when you’d distress and ink the edges. I used Vintage Photo.

Die cut Sizzix Box using coordinating paper. If the paper is pretty lightweight, I found that adhering another piece of paper to the patterned one gives enough weight to the box so it doesn’t get crushed. In case you don't have the die to make the tiny mini box, here's the dimensions. All the cut lines are GREEN, all the score lines are ORANGE.  I recommend the Perfect Ruler for measuring and cutting, found on Scrapadabadoo  http://www.scrapadabadoo.com/item_5054/Perfect-Ruler.htm

For this project I just scribbled on lightweight watercolor paper with some Gelatos, went over the scribbles with baby wipes and let the colors gently fuse, and used rubber cement to bind the papers together. You can use any paper you like, I just wanted to play around with the gelatos! Using a strong double sided adhesive, attach the box to the non pocket side of the tag. I like to use tiny magnets or clear velcro dots on the closure. For this project I used the velcro dots, they can be seen in one of the photos.

Artist Trading Card tiny mini: attach 3 ATCs together with 1”construction strips scored at 1/2” lengthwise. Cover all six pages, I wanted to showcase all the Design Team members so I made a tiny mini for each member. The outside - or cover - is a photo of each DT member, and the inside pages are where they’re from, a stamped sentiment, a sentiment from a Graphic 45 collection, and cut aparts from the Prima Love Letter collection. The Prima collection has the perfect size images for a pocket sized mini. I embellished with beads, buttons, charms and some Tim Holtz idea-ology muse coins. I like to add a twine faux binding for interest. Wrap Baker’s twine or jute around the spine and pages securing with a dot of Glossy Accents on both ends. Wrap the twine around, glue to the spine with glossy accents, it and tie a knot at the top leaving a ‘tail”. Add beads or charms to the end of the tail. The 6 page tiny mini should be a perfect fit inside the box. A gift card is also a perfect fit if you don’t want to make a tiny mini.

Cut two tags - or more - for the pocket on the other side of the tag. A photo can be added to the tags or they can used for journaling. You can also use blank pages for the tiny mini so the recipient can add wallet size photos or it can used for journaling. Embellish the side of the tag with the box, I stayed with my Design Team member theme and embellished according to where each member lived. I thought it was a great way to showcase how diverse a team this is! To finish off the project I die cut a tiny tag using Memory Box Library Alphabet Tags of the first letter of each Design Team member’s name and attached that to the eyelet with a leftover piece of jute. Any charm can be used, or a piece of ribbon.

I hope you enjoy these Pocket Tags. I had so much fun making them.

Keep Creating!
